Buying the stock and grips would make it a much easier build.
Much more expensive though, last time i saw a Sterling stock it was about £60.
all they are is a modified sten gun
Not quite. They're a modified Lanchester. You could say that the Sten is actually an adaptation of the Lanchester design being made simpler and cheaper to make ![]()
Ok here's my Asahi Sterling I got it from these people http://www.modelguncollector.co.uk/index_air.html

If you look you'll see that the magwell sits almost on top of the trigger which means that if you use something like an AK or MP5 gearbox you'll have to move the magwell forward to accomodate it, which is why I'm planning to build a Patchett using an extra reciever that I've got along with a MP7 gearbox

As to mags, here's a comparison of a sterling mag and a MP5 mid-cap

Depending on how well the Patchett goes I may convert the Sterling if not I'll have to get all the gubbins to run it as is.

Hows the gas work - do you have to have a big cylinder in your pocket - looks awkward?

Oh you bad, bad man.
I'm now seriously coveting that, even though it'd need all the insides ripping out and replacing with an AEG.
A gas gun with a motor
Would it be possible to convert it to use CO2 cartridges, or other gas, in the back?

You could, but i imagine they'd last about 1-2 mags each. far better to rip all the gas crap out and replace it with AEG internals.
HMMMMMM 290 nicker - is that a fair price?

tbh, i've never seen another one for sale, so i couldn't tell you. It's fair to me, or it's an amount i'd be prepared to pay, at least, as it'd save me building the bugger. ![]()

Spoken like someone whose never experienced the sheer insanity of the Asahi BV system when fully upgraded. Nutter rates of fire and truly mental velocities were easily achieved.
Dammit, I miss the days of Asahi, JAC, FTC, YE, MGC etc etc.

i could never cope with the pipes and bottled gas nonsense, i'm afraid. ![]()
I think the price is a little high - when I got mine a few years ago, it was £150.00 shipped from Japan (Endoshoji).

Edit: they're also slightly smaller than the real thing. They also have another one on the site for £240.00, which sounds more reasonable.
Edit: Are there any walther mpl's or mpk's available? I'm sure sure i've seen a few spring ones about.
Yes they are an easy gun to make.
I was on the BBC site for a few years, there are quite a few good blaster makers on there.
This is the one I made.
